The Consul General of Turkey, Muammer Hakan Cenkiz, along with Vice-Consul Ergin, visited the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Aleppo.

Consul General Ara Avetisyan noted that the Armenian Consulate General has been operating in Aleppo for over 30 years and has never ceased its activities since its establishment, not even during the siege and war in Aleppo.

Cenkiz stated that, guided by the principles of diplomatic etiquette, he considered it his duty to visit the only functioning diplomatic mission in Aleppo. He also invited Avetisyan to the opening of the Turkish Consulate General, and the invitation was accepted.

It’s also important to note the recent developments, including the aid to Syria through Turkey. Following a decision by the Armenian government, the Margara checkpoint between Armenia and Turkey was opened on 21 March for a ten-day period to facilitate the transportation of humanitarian aid to Syria. This move is part of Armenia’s efforts to send aid through Turkish territory. A humanitarian aid convoy sent by the State of Armenia has arrived in Aleppo. The convoy, which includes four trucks loaded with food and medical supplies, was received by the Aleppo municipality according to a Facebook post by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Syrian Arab Republic. Present at the arrival were Armenia’s Ambassador to Syria, Ruben Karapetyan, and the Consul General of Armenia in Aleppo, Ara Avetisyan.

This aid is part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the affected areas and meet the basic needs of the population. However, it remains unclear who specifically is receiving the aid and whether the Armenian community is among the recipients.

It is important to note that Armenian authorities recently modified the Syrian flags to reflect those used by the Turkish-backed terrorist Jolani group, which took power through an insurgency in December 2024.This aid transfer could also be part of a broader geopolitical strategy by Turkey to draw Armenia’s pro-Turkish government into its orbit. By facilitating the transportation of aid to its new ally in Syria, Turkey could be using this as a pretext to open its border with Armenia.
