Armenia is set to lift cargo transit restrictions to Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on Monday, describing it as a reciprocal move following Baku’s recent decision.

“Armenia will also lift restrictions on the transit of goods to Azerbaijan,” Pashinyan said during a parliamentary committee hearing, referencing Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s earlier claim that his country had already removed similar limitations on goods heading to Armenia.

Pashinyan cited a shipment of Kazakh wheat as an example, noting that it would be transported through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia via the railway network. “This will take place along the Azerbaijan Georgia Armenia railway route,” he said, presenting the development as a sign of progress.

Last week, Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan had lifted all barriers to the transit of Armenian goods. The first shipment under this arrangement, the Kazakh wheat consignment, was welcomed by Pashinyan, highlighting his willingness to move forward with the process despite growing domestic criticism.
