The “Spiritual and Cultural Public Television Company” CJSC, widely known as Shoghakat TV, is set to be dissolved following a decision adopted at today’s session of the Government of Armenia.

According to the official justification, the move stems from amendments to the Law on Audiovisual Media adopted on October 24, 2025. The amendments reduce the number of public broadcasters to two and eliminate the legal requirement for public broadcasters to provide educational and cultural programming.

Shoghakat TV was established by a government decision on February 24, 2011. Under that decision, authority over the company’s shares was vested in the Council of the Public Television and Radio Company. Since its founding, Shoghakat’s core mission has been the production and broadcast of spiritual and cultural content.

On October 24, the National Assembly approved the audiovisual media amendments, with the bill’s explanatory note explicitly stating that the changes would result in Shoghakat’s removal from the list of public broadcasters.

The legislative amendments are scheduled to enter into force on January 1, 2026.

The decision to dissolve Shoghakat comes amid escalating actions by Armenian authorities that have been widely perceived as targeting the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
