The city of Alboraya has officially become the 43rd municipality in Spain to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The recognition came through a unanimous vote by six parties in the city council — the ruling PSOE and Compromís, along with the PP, VOX, Alboraya Actúa, and Esquerra Unida–Unides Podem per Alboraya. The resolution was introduced by Compromís and based on a motion drafted by the Ararat Armenian Union of Spain, as reported by Orer.eu.
City council members expressed their readiness to support the Armenian community in advancing this issue to the Spanish parliament. In their statements, councillors condemned the Armenian Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire, emphasized the global necessity for universal recognition, and underscored the importance of reparations from Turkey.
