The European Commission has declined to endorse the Armenian authorities’ expectation that visa-free travel with the European Union could be achieved by 2029.

Speaking at a briefing in Brussels, European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho said it was still too early to predict when the visa liberalization process could be completed.

“Isn’t it too early to predict that 2029, or any other date, will be the moment of visa liberalization? I would say it is still far too early for that level of precision,” Pinho said.

The Armenian authorities have set 2029 as a target for achieving visa-free travel with the EU in their 2026–2031 government program.
