Armenia and Azerbaijan have finalized negotiations on the text of a so-called “peace agreement,” according to statements from both countries’ foreign ministries.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced that Armenia has accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on the last two unresolved points of the agreement. However, he emphasized that the next step requires Armenia to amend its Constitution to align with the deal’s terms.
“The ball is now in Armenia’s court,” Bayramov stated, signaling Baku’s expectation that Yerevan will implement constitutional changes as part of the peace process.
In response, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed its acceptance of Azerbaijan’s proposals and declared the agreement ready for signing. Yerevan also informed Baku through diplomatic channels that it is prepared to begin consultations on the date and location of the signing.
Armenia had proposed issuing a joint statement to announce the conclusion of negotiations, but Azerbaijan opted for a unilateral declaration. Despite this, Armenia reaffirmed that the agreement’s text has been finalized, officially marking the end of negotiations.
The terms of the deal remain undisclosed.
Further fueling speculation, when asked whether the agreement would include granting a road to Azerbaijan, Nikol Pashinyan responded: “Yes, we will give it.”
