Earlier today, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told TVnet that “Azerbaijan and Armenia have agreed on the fundamental points of the peace treaty, now it remains to be implemented.” He clarified that the new agreement is based on 5 main principles including “the recognition of each other’s territorial integrity, the demarcation of borders, etc.”.
In the same interview, the Turkish Foreign Minister described the recent meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Prague as “productive”, adding that the Armenia-Turkey normalization process cannot occur without an agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan refuted the Turkish Foreign Ministers’ statements and stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan have not agreed on a new peace treaty.
Armenia and Turkey appointed special envoys for the regulation of relations last year. Armenia is represented by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, and Turkey by former ambassador of Turkey to the USA, Serdar Kılıç.
