Serj Tankian’s name is no longer listed on the website of the Board of Trustees of the My Step Foundation. Tankian joined the Board of the My Step Foundation shortly after the “Velvet Revolution” in 2018.
In 2018, Serj Tankian rallied Armenians to support then candidate Nikol Pashinyan and even flew to Armenia to join Pashinyan’s rallies in May 2018. After speaking to crowds in Armenia in support of Pashinyan, Tankian then went on to create a documentary about Pashinyan’s campaign and the “Velvet Revolution.”
Months after strengthening his relationship with Pashinyan, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the My Step Foundation. The My Step Foundation, a US registered nonprofit organization, was created for the wife of Nikol Pashinyan. In April 2020, Tankian even performed a new song whose lyrics were written by Pashinyan called “Hayastane.” At the time, it was announced that 100 percent of the proceeds of the song would benefit the My Step Foundation.
Since then, he has continued to participate in Board of Trustee meetings and meetings with the Executive Director of the My Step Foundation.
Tankian has been quoted throughout the years and even most recently in a Rolling Stones interview in December 2020 stating that he doesn’t believe in borders. Despite the ruling government’s failures during the 2020 Artsakh War and the post-war recovery, Tankian continues to be outspoken about his support for Prime Minister Pashinyan.
301 has reached out to Serj Tankian for a comment regarding his status as a Board of Trustee member but he has yet to respond.
