Armenian-born grandmaster Levon Aronian, now representing the United States, has advanced to the final of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour in Las Vegas after a commanding 2-0 victory over Indian GM Arjun Erigaisi in the semifinals of the Fischer Random rapid format.
Aronian will now face American player Hans Niemann in the final, with the first game set to begin on July 20 at 22:00 Yerevan time.
Aronian’s path to the championship match has been one of grit and brilliance. He eliminated world number one Magnus Carlsen in a 2-0 tiebreak earlier in the tournament and took down world number two Hikaru Nakamura in the quarterfinals.
Aronian continues to prove why he remains one of the most formidable figures in the global chess scene.
