Football journalist Suren Meliksetyan has reported that veteran defender Varazdat Haroyan has officially announced his retirement from the Armenian national team. Haroyan delivered the statement through Meliksetyan following a private conversation earlier today.

According to Haroyan, he has played 92 matches for Armenia during both the most triumphant and most difficult eras in the team’s history. He emphasized that he has always been ready to serve the national team and that his commitment and patriotism have been evident both on and off the field.

“The national team has given me a great deal throughout my career, and for 15 years, I gave everything I had in return. I played with my entire heart for my nation,” Haroyan said.

He explained that the time has come to step away, and he openly cited his reasons. Haroyan stated that he once attempted to work with the newly appointed head coach, but the collaboration failed. He sees no reason to try again, believing it will not work — and acknowledged that he no longer has the desire to make such an attempt.

“Thank you to everyone who trusted me all these years. I wish the national team success. I will always be with them — in spirit and in heart,” he concluded.
