The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ordered Azerbaijan to provide copies or summaries of court verdicts in criminal cases involving Armenian hostages by August 31, 2026, according to the Center of International and Comparative Law.
The decision follows repeated requests by Azerbaijan to lift an interim measure that requires it to periodically report on the conditions of detention and health status of Armenian hostages held in the country. Azerbaijani authorities have argued that all related legal proceedings are conducted transparently and publicly.
On April 9, 2026, the ECHR rejected Azerbaijan’s latest request, reaffirming its requirement that the government continue submitting detailed information on the hostages. This includes updated medical records, as well as documentation related to medical examinations and treatment.
In addition, the court specifically instructed Azerbaijan to provide copies of verdicts or summaries thereof, including judicial reasoning based on the evidence presented in each case.
The next reporting deadline has been set for August 31, 2026.
