Melikset Pashayan is one of the Armenians detained by Azerbaijani forces during the September 2023 attack on Artsakh. Later court reporting placed his detention on September 20, 2023 in the Daghdagan area, after which he was transferred to Baku.

On February 5, 2026, the Baku Military Court sentenced Pashayan to 19 years in prison. The sentence was left unchanged by the Baku Court of Appeal on August 6, 2026.
