French MEP Marie Toussaint has submitted a formal written question to Commissioner Kaja Kallas, expressing deep concern over the worsening situation of Armenian hostages subjected to sham trials in Azerbaijan.
Toussaint emphasized that after the closure of the ICRC office in Baku-the only neutral body with regular access to the detainees-and amid reports of declining health conditions, lack of medical care, extended isolation, and politically motivated prosecutions, it is imperative for the EU diplomatic mission in Baku to take action.
In her submission, MEP Toussaint posed three specific questions:
1.Will the Commission instruct the EU Delegation in Baku to monitor and report on the upcoming trials of Armenian detainees?
2.What measures will be taken to ensure humanitarian access and independent medical evaluations for the most vulnerable prisoners?
3.When and how will the Commission update the European Parliament and the public on whether Azerbaijan is fulfilling its international obligations?
