Former Armenian international Tigran Barseghyan registered an assist for Slovan Bratislava against back-to-back Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, adding another contribution to his record on Europe’s biggest stage.
Barseghyan set up Saliou Camara for Slovan’s goal in the 58th minute, with PSG ultimately winning 6-1 at the Parc des Princes.
The match was Barseghyan’s 199th appearance for Slovan. He ranks fifth in the club’s history for appearances and, with 63 goals, is the club’s fourth-highest goalscorer of all time.
Barseghyan has also built a notable Champions League record. Before facing PSG, he had made eight appearances in the competition, scoring against AC Milan and providing assists against Milan and Stuttgart. He also came close to scoring against Bayern Munich.
The night was historic for Slovan for another reason. Head coach Yaya Touré became the first African coach to lead a team in the main stage of the UEFA Champions League, excluding qualifying rounds.
Despite the heavy defeat, Barseghyan once again made his mark at Champions League level and remains one of the few Armenian footballers competing on European football’s biggest stage.
