Recounts are underway at polling stations across Armenia following requests submitted by political parties and alliances after the June 8 parliamentary election.

The first publicly reported recounts have already uncovered significant discrepancies between polling station protocols and figures published on the Central Election Commission’s website.

The findings are particularly significant because the “Prosperous Armenia” Party missed the 4% threshold for parliamentary representation by 59 votes nationwide.

If recounts ultimately result in the party entering parliament, the ruling “Civil Contract” Party would lose its three-fifths supermajority in the National Assembly, potentially affecting its ability to make certain appointments and other decisions without opposition support.

The deadline for recount requests expired at 11:00 a.m. on June 9. According to the CEC, 30 requests covering 555 polling stations were submitted before the deadline.

At polling station 27/7, a recount confirmed that the “Prosperous Armenia” Party received 77 votes. The CEC website had recorded only 1 vote.

The finding follows a similar discrepancy at polling station 27/26, where a recount confirmed 19 votes for the party, while the CEC website listed 3.

Recounts have also uncovered major discrepancies affecting the “Strong Armenia” Alliance.

At polling station 27/7, the alliance was confirmed to have received 135 votes, but the CEC website recorded only 10.

At polling station 23/17, a recount confirmed 105 votes for the alliance, while the CEC website listed 10.

At polling station 38/53, a recount confirmed 136 votes for the alliance. The CEC website recorded 0 votes.

At polling station 4/46 one vote for the “Prosperous Armenia” Party had been incorrectly treated as invalid, while four votes for the “Strong Armenia” Alliance and one vote for the “Armenia” Alliance had not been recorded.

As recounts continue, attention will focus on whether further discrepancies emerge and whether the final results could affect parliamentary representation and the balance of power in the National Assembly.
