Alex and Lina Megerdechian have donated $9.6 million to fund the purchase of property for Glendale’s first Armenian high school, marking a major milestone in the decades-long effort to expand Armenian education in the city.

The donation was formally recognized on November 6 by Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Armenian Apostolic Church’s Western Prelacy, alongside representatives of the Prelacy and Chamlian Armenian School.

The new institution, to be named Alex and Lina Megerdechian High School, will provide students with an opportunity to continue their education in an Armenian academic environment after graduating from Chamlian.

According to the Western Prelacy, the $9.6 million contribution will fully fund the property acquisition, with the site to be placed under the Prelacy’s auspices.

Archbishop Khacherian described the donation as a major investment in Armenian education, language, faith, and cultural identity.

The school’s establishment represents a significant step toward fulfilling a longstanding goal of Glendale’s Armenian community, with further development and opening details yet to be announced.
