Armenia is reportedly set to receive four L-39 Skyfox advanced trainer and light combat aircraft from Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody, according to a Czech source linked to the defense industry.
Armenia already operates the older L-39 Albatros, and Aero itself describes the country as a long-standing user of the aircraft. The Skyfox is the new-generation successor to the Albatros, designed for advanced pilot training as well as light attack, air patrol and reconnaissance missions.
The reported acquisition has not yet been officially confirmed by Armenian authorities or Aero.
Aero said in June that it was completing production of four Skyfox aircraft for an unidentified customer, although the company did not disclose the buyer.
The L-39 Skyfox is a new-generation subsonic trainer and tactical aircraft developed to prepare pilots for modern combat aviation. It can carry weapons on up to five external hardpoints and is designed for training, light combat and reconnaissance roles.
According to the Czech report, the aircraft being produced for Armenia are configured with two 12.7 mm gun pods, two LAU-32 rocket launchers and an aerial reconnaissance pod.
Aero has also developed a counter-UAS configuration for the Skyfox, allowing the aircraft to be adapted to intercept drones, including jet-powered UAVs.
If confirmed, the four aircraft would represent a modernization of Armenia’s existing L-39 fleet rather than the introduction of an entirely new aircraft family.
